New Moon October 24 Slate with Pyrite 4

£50.00

Slate with Pyrite inclusions from Easdale Island

This months new moon is a solar eclipse, the moon passes in front of the sun causing the ring of fire. Pyr in Greek means fire as when pyrite is struck it emits sparks! It also felt fitting to go for a dark slate grey rock. Collected about 5 years ago, I have been wanting to cut this one for a while and I also like the symbolism between a clean slate and the shift in energy brought by the eclipse, which is to bring new beginnings and change.

Clay shale and volcanic ash combine and much like last months rock were metamorphosis under heat and pressure near a plate boundary. This occurred 490 million years ago during the Caladonian orogeny. The pyrites are formed by the metamorphosis of iron rich minerals contained in slate.

Can be worn both sides.

Postcard print of a painting of the original rock included.

Rings sold separately.
