Striving for an ethical practice has shaped the methods, materials  and techniques I use.

Ethics

Fair Trade

Buying Fairtrade Gold makes a real difference to the lives of miners, their families and communities. Buying it means you know the small-scale and artisanal miners were paid a fair price, giving them financial security.

They also receive an extra amount of money to invest in building the future of their families and their communities, through education, medical care or environmental projects.

Recycling Metals and Gems

As part of my commission service I offer clients the opportunity to bring in their scrap jewellery which can then be used in whole or to contribute to create a new piece of Jewellery.

Please note that any old pieces must be identifiable with hallmarks to state what the metals are, this ensures that any legal consumer requirements are met.

Ethical Studio Practice

Over time I have made changes to my studio and making processes to become more environmentally aware. I use citric acid (a naturally occurring material) to clean any metals. Rouge compounds have been swapped to a less hazardous plant based material.

Rocks and Stones

I collect and source my rocks thought the UK. I am careful where I collect and only take where there is rock fell in abundance. My commonly used rocks include Marble from Isle of Skye, Slate with Pyrite inclusions from Easdale Island,  Fossilised Coral from Helmsdale, red and green Jaspers from Fife and Angus coastlines and anything else that I want to experiment with. I can also cut most rocks supplied by customers for that unique sentimental element.

Ethically Sourced Gemstones

I believe in complete transparency and only source my gemstones form ethically sourced producers with traceable supply chain, so I can guarantee that all of the gems i use are conflict-free. I will always supply the name of the mine the stone came from #knowthesource

Packaging and more

I take great care when sourcing any packaging or paper products that they come from a recycled and sustainable source. Displays are made from Jesmonite, a Water-based, Solvent free Composite Material.  For my website I use ecohosting who provide carbon neutral hosting who are based in the UK powered by Renewable Energy.
